Miracle Mineral Supplement – Magic Bleach!

This week has been a pretty busy week for me which ended with me defriending another person on Facebook after she posted a status defending a parents usage of the Miracle Mineral Supplement as a treatment for Autism.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with what the Miracle Mineral Supplement is, let me give you a brief run down. The Miracle Mineral Supplement was created by Jim Humble as the following (quote taken from his website):

This breakthrough can save your life, or the life of a loved one.
The answer to AIDS, hepatitis A,B and C, malaria, herpes, TB, most cancer and many more of mankind’s worse diseases has been found. Many diseases are now easily controlled. More than 75,000 disease victims have been included in the field tests in Africa. Scientific clinical trials have been conducted in a prison in the country of Malawi, East Africa.

Those are some pretty bold claims! But first before we examine the claims on Humble’s site, we’ll first look into what the MMS actually consists of.

The product, when used as directed, produces an industrial bleach that can cause serious harm to health. The product instructs consumers to mix the 28 percent sodium chlorite solution with an acid such as citrus juice. This mixture produces chlorine dioxide, a potent bleach used for stripping textiles and industrial water treatment. High oral doses of this bleach, such as those recommended in the labeling, can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and symptoms of severe dehydration (source).

Not surprisingly, there are a few side effects when a person ingests heavy strength bleach however promoters of the MMS attempt to get around this little barrier by telling people when they feel sick from ingesting the MMS, it means their body is expelling the toxins that have accumulated. Alongside being promoted as a cure-all for AIDS, hepatitis A,B and C, malaria, herpes, TB and most cancer’s, the MMS is being used to treat Autism in children. We all know how some people hate people on the Autism spectrum, what with the ways they promote snake oil cure-all for something that has no cure and shouldn’t need a cure.

What is MMS made of?
MMS is not magic, it has science behind it. Let’s take a quick look at what MMS is made of Chlorine Dioxide ion – CLO2 – Kills microscopic organisms — Pathogens and oxidizes heavy metals.
Chlorine dioxide ion (CLO2) has been FDA approved to treat water and wash raw poultry, meat and fish while processing. It is said to kill 100% of pathogens in water treatment systems and in processing plants in 5% of the water processing plants. This quote is from MMS – Miracle Mineral Supplement, Jim Humble who discovered the hidden properties of “Stabilized Oxygen” and a way to increase its properties 100 fold its ability to kill 98 to 100% of dangerous pathogens in the system.

When people hear Chlorine that instantly think toxins, but not all Chlorine is the same. CLO2 is found naturally in your body, infact your body produces CLO2 to help fight off infections and disease. (source)

While Chlorine dioxide (bleach) is used as a disinfectant that can kill micro-organisms “all damage is done to your own body, and none to any pathogens – except perhaps some in your throat“, is a false statement. Bleach does indeed kills pathogens but the catch is that bleach absolutely can’t distinguish between your cells and bacterial/viral/fungal/parasitic cells. It kills the first cell it stumbles upon. “It denatures the first protein it sees, cuts through DNA like a hot knife through butter” (source). As for the claim that ClO2 is found naturally in the body, this statement is irrelevant. Formaldehyde is found naturally in the body as well as other sources however the dose makes the poison, just because it is found within the body – does not mean you should be ingesting it or shoving up your arse. Especially when it comes to children.

Stablized oxygen? Oxygen is an unstable element, it cannot stand alone as a single atom and needs to bond with another oxygen atom (making it diatomic) to make it more stable. Oxygen has three stable isotopes but that’s hardly something that needs to be rediscovered (especially by someone looking to make a small fortune scamming scientifically illiterate people). Chemistry already discovered that decades ago. You’re a bit late to the game Mr Humble. I guess by “discovered the hidden properties” the author means “found high school chemistry textbook hidden under piles of rubbish”. ClO2 has 1 atom of Chlorine and 2 atoms of Oxygen but that isn’t an indication of any treatment possibilities for the substance.

I would have thought it would be pretty simple to understand that feeding your child bleach is nothing less than child abuse but apparently if you’re scientifically illiterate, that’s enough of an excuse to continue to harm your child.
